Tara Air has added a German-made 18-seater Dornier 228-212 aircraft to its fleet to expand its network to remote areas. According to the carrier, the aircraft was purchased from Island Aviation Service Company in the Maldives.

The TPE 331-powered aircraft has an enhanced ground proximity warning system including traffic collision awareness system and weather radar altimeters as a key element. The aircraft was manufactured in December 2002.

Counting the newly inducted plane with the call sign 9N AKE, Tara Air now has seven aircraft in its fleet (five Twin Otter and two Dorniers). “The aircraft will fly passengers on remote sectors besides

carrying cargo,” the airline said in a press statement.

Tara Air is a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines. It operates on short-haul sectors like Lukla, Phaplu, Lamidanda, Rumjatar, Ramechhap, Bhojpur and Meghauli from Kathmandu. The carrier flies to Jomsom and Manang from Pokhara and to Dolpa, Jumla, Bajura, Simikot, Rara, Rukum and Bajhang from Nepalgunj and Surkhet.
